Why Should You Die?

We have adopted the idea that sin no longer leads to death, because our culture, as a whole, has rejected the Bible. It is no longer regarded as anything more than a book of out-dated myths and fables.

Since the Bible is no longer regarded as truth, none of the core teachings of the Bible are accepted as true. We have decided it is not scientific to believe in a Creator, even though, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world,” as it says in Psalm 19:1-4.

As the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:18-20, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”

Rejecting any notion of the existence of God led to a rejection of any notion of evil, as well. This is perhaps even more amazing, because (once again) the Bible has demonstrated so clearly how present evil and rebellion is in the heart of unsaved mankind.

Genesis 3 maps out clearly how humans respond to our own sinful behaviors. Once Adam and Eve had sinned against God, they tried to hide their vulnerability and their nakedness from each other (Genesis 3:7). Then they tried to hide themselves from the presence of God (Genesis 3:8). Finally, when confronted with their personal failure and sin, both of them tried to blame it all on someone else (Genesis 3:12-13).

It is amazing how perfectly the Bible describes our situation as humans. We are sinners on a sin-cursed planet. As such, we suffer from anxiety and alienation; not only from God, but from each other and even from all of creation, itself!

There is a reason for the anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, opioid addictions, alcoholism and other addictions to gambling, pornography, etc. that characterize our society. We are just as Ephesians 2:12 says: “without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.”

But praise God! Ephesians 2:12 is followed by Ephesians 2:13, which says: “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Thank goodness, in Jesus Christ, you can repent of your sins, and get a new heart and a new spirit! As God says: “Why should you die?”

Blessings,

Brother Dan

“‘Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,’ says the Lord God. ‘Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?'”
